As many of you are aware, I’ve been embroiled in a years-long battle with Bovis Homes over the numerous serious defects in our property. Instead of fulfilling their promise to fix these issues—a promise they’ve repeated over the past 5.5 years—Bovis have now made it clear that they will only buy back the house.
After more than half a decade of fighting and enduring months of living in what often felt like a construction site, the long-awaited offer finally arrived today. However, what should have been a step towards resolution has proven to be nothing short of a slap in the face. The offer from Bovis is £56,250 below the valuations we obtained for the property.
While they have included legal and moving costs in the offer, the figure provided wouldn’t even cover these expenses. As for the compensation they’ve offered? It’s laughably inadequate. It doesn’t even begin to reflect the time, effort, and emotional toll this ordeal has taken on us. It fails to account for the disruption, inconvenience, stress, loss of work hours, and the sheer loss of enjoyment in what was meant to be our “dream home.”
The only figure they seem to have gotten right is the mortgage redemption amount—which, unsurprisingly, we had to provide them ourselves.
To say this is an insult would be an understatement. Needless to say, I have outright rejected this derisory offer.
This is yet another chapter in the deeply frustrating saga of owning a Bovis home—a journey that has been far from the dream they sold to us. For those of you in similar situations, I hope sharing this experience helps you feel less alone. Together, we can hold companies like Bovis accountable for the promises they fail to deliver.
If you’ve had a similar experience, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s keep raising awareness of what it’s really like to live in a Bovis home.
